This is the book that seems to have inspired the gunman who has taken over the Discovery Channel Building… he wants the network to air programs that will save the planet, as apparently are described in My Ishmael on pages 207-212. The books is about a gorilla named Ishmael who describes his philosophy regarding tribal society to a twelve-year-old girl named Julie.
I hope that this story doesn’t give Ishmael or My Ishmael a bad name. They are both excellent books; if this man had actually paid attention to the books he swears to live by, he would have realized that Ishmael promotes a call to action through non-violence.
Why go after the Discovery Channel anyway? Television is for sheep; they are certainly not the ones who are willing to put in the effort to reshape our society.
